Do you ever feel stuck, despite having big dreams? You're not alone. Many people dream of a fulfilling life, but struggle to turn those dreams into reality. The surprising truth? We often play an unconscious role in sabotaging our own aspirations.

This article explores some common mistakes that might be holding you back. (Spoiler alert: I've definitely been guilty of a number of them myself!)
- Doubting Your abilities:
You have the requisite skills but believe that you’re not "good enough" or qualified enough for your dreams. You doubt that you can actually achieve them or if at all you deserve them.
- Fear of failure:
You have a great fear of failure – maybe due to past experience or observation. You therefore let the fear of failure prevent you from even trying.
- Perfectionism:
You have this picture of perfectionism that you hold yourself to. As a result, you have some unrealistic standards and ideals, making you get discouraged by setbacks.
- Comparing yourself to others:
As you think about your dreams, you tend to compare yourself to others who seemingly have it all in place. This leaves you feeling inadequate when comparing your journeys to others' highlight reels. You therefore self-sabotage and are unable to do anything.
- Ignoring your intuition:
We all have an intuition that’s not based on facts. That little nudge that tells you to avoid or to do something. Sometimes your intuition knows best. By over-thinking matters, you might end up ignoring the intuition which many times is pointing you in the right direction.
- People-pleasing:
When you feel the urge to prioritizing others' wants and needs over your own aspirations, you block out the possibility of achieving your dreams. You’ll instead be fulfilling other people’s dreams.
- Not setting boundaries:
By not defining your boundaries, you stretch yourself thin by commitments that drain them of energy and time for your own dreams. Set boundaries that allow you to pursue what you really want to do.
- Choosing the "safe" option:
When you consistently take the easy path, you end up compromising. The safe option is usually the path of least resistance and limits your growth and exploration of unchartered territories.
- Letting relationships hold you back:
Staying in unhealthy relationships or sacrificing your dreams for others. Unhealthy relationships can include a spouse, friends, colleagues or even the society around you.
- Lack of clear goals:
Many people go through life with no clear goals or ambition. They hope for favor to fall for them in the right places, while placing no extra effort. Not having a defined vision for what you want to achieve can keep you stuck.
- Procrastination:
You keep putting things off due to fear or lack of organization.
- Not taking initiative:
Waiting for opportunities to come to you instead of actively seeking them.
- Fear of asking for help:
Believing that you need to do everything on your own. Your dream might mean finding help from someone else that will help you make progress.
- Giving up too easily:
You’re not persistent enough, or you’re not resilient in the face of challenges. At the sight of the slightest sight of a challenge, you give up.
- Neglecting self-care:
Prioritizing everyone else's needs and neglecting your own physical and mental well-being. This leaves you with no energy for growth or personal improvement towards your goals.
- Not prioritizing learning and growth:
Stagnation in your comfort zone instead of actively developing new skills and knowledge. It’s said that when you stop learning, you start dying.
Remember, these are common pitfalls, not guarantees. By recognizing these mistakes and actively working to overcome them, you can empower yourself to pursue your dreams and create a fulfilling life.
