November Motivation: Make the Most of the Year’s End

November is here already, and now counting down to the end of the year. School holidays are upon us, and Christmas thoughts will soon occupy our minds, together with thoughts on how we will spend our December holidays. How time has flown? It feels like we’ve been battling different issues the whole year, one after another. From personal challenges to corporate and political issues. It’s easy to find ourselves at the end of the year with a list of excuses for why our lives have not improved as we had hoped, and we will not be to blame.

I feel like I’ve lived two years in one. Perhaps it’s time to reflect on how you started the year. What hopes did you have of your life and what did you plan to do? If you have made some headway, good on you. You deserve a pat on the back. If, however, you’ve not managed to make any headway, you still have two months to try to do something.

It is said that “The best time to start was yesterday. The second-best time is now.” Life happens, and the difference is in how we handle things as life is happening. Some have gained more than they anticipated, while others have lost. And it might be for no direct fault of yours.

On the bright side, there are still two months left in the year, and while it might feel like there's not much time, it's a great opportunity to start something. You can restart today and make the year-end on a brighter note.

Reflect on the Year

Take a moment to reflect on your journey so far. What have you accomplished? What challenges have you overcome? What lessons have you learned? Be kind to yourself, and acknowledge your efforts, no matter how small they may seem. Sometimes we assume the ‘small’ wins yet they actually might be the wins we need.

What can you put your mind to achieving in the next two months? Start today, and set realistic and achievable goals that can be done in the remaining period. It does not mean you need to finish, it means you need to start. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. Take those ten steps, don’t look at the whole journey – only to where your eyesight can see for now. Remember, small steps lead to big changes.

One thing I’ve discovered is that where there is a will, there’s a way. There are times I’ve started something not knowing exactly how things will end or even how I’ll achieve it. But as I begin, things start unfolding with each step. The idea is to take the steps albeit in faith. This is something my husband does a lot, something I’ve learned from him. We started projects we did not know how they would be concluded and were pleasantly surprised when they got finished. Don’t overthink it, just do it.

Another thing to take stock of is your health. Have you taken proactive measures to ensure that as you continue aging, you do so gracefully? Sometimes this might require you to make dietary changes or to start moving more. It can mean joining a gym or even slowing down in some activities that might be doing more harm than good. Basically, how much have you taken care of yourself this year? If you don’t do it, nobody will.

Connect with Others

How much have you connected with others this year? Be it family, friends, colleagues, on partners. Strong relationships can provide support and motivation. Reach out to friends and family, and spend quality time with loved ones.

Embrace the Future

As the year comes to an end, remember, it's never too late to make a change. With the right mindset and a little effort, you can make the most of the remaining two months of the year.

Let's make the most of the remaining time and end the year on a positive note.

As we navigate the final stretch of this year, let's remember that every day is a new opportunity. Don't let setbacks define your year; let them be stepping stones to growth and resilience. By setting clear intentions, taking action, and practicing self-compassion, we can turn the remaining days into a period of significant progress and positive change.
